Where to go for Summer 2014

May 05, 2014 11.26 AM

Where to go for Summer 2014 includes the less obvious glamour getaways of the forthcoming summer season. This year adventure is key, preferably a mix of first time-visits for the long-haul trips and familiar summertime haunts for weekends closer to home. Yachters should opt for the less-crowded eastern Med with itineraries like Venice to Dubrovnik or Montenegro along the Dalmatian Coast.

The hyped openings of the season include the Ferragamo Family’s Portrait Firenze, Kit Kemp’s Ham Yard in London’s Soho and the Peninsula Paris. Foodies will want to include a long weekend in Modena where Osteria Francescana may be the best meal you’ve ever eaten "or perhaps a two-night romp at England’s Wild Rabbit or Topping Rose House in New York’s Bridgehampton. Along the French Riviera it’s all about staying east of Nice this summer in smaller, chicer villages like Villefranche-Sur-Mer, Eze and even Cap-Ferrat. And after you’ve finished with the Mykonos scene head south to Antiparos and its idyllic beach clubs that are still Cycladic perfection come July and August.

The party scene will confuse Ibiza and Las Vegas this year, each with poolside scenes of jet-setting DJs that include Avicii, Calvin Harris and David Guetta. Vegas will get new Drai’s Beach Club opening atop the new Cromwell Hotel for Memorial Day Weekend while Ibiza’s Hacienda Na Xamena got a fluff over winter that didn’t do away with the in-room Jacuzzis or animal-print exoticism. True animal lovers, however, will want to catch The Great Migration on horseback as it travels through Tanzania’s Grumetti Reserve and Singita’s new Mara River Camp in June and July that’s one of the world’s greatest wildlife experiences.
